To me, the sound of the overtone series is one of the most beautiful things in the world. Being a trumpet player, I have been exposed to this sound for years, without really knowing what it was all about. With time, I discovered the character of the intervals higher up in the spectrum, its small nuances and the differences compared to the common equally tempered intervals. I was discovering a completely new territory which had been surrounding me all the time and that I could now call "home". "Resonance" is thus the theme of this music.
The Blues is an individual musical statement. A result, a reflection and an answer the most extreme form of alienation: slavery. Considering the importance of the Blues in modern music, it's obvious that experienced alienation is not strange to todays' people who have never undergone slavery. It's a reality of modern life. The Blues resonated in me when I discovered musical improvisation and it has remained a major inspiration since.
The grooves on this album are a result of making music with the same group of lovely individuals and sharing it with listeners for many years. Unfortunately, many people still think that rhythm is a primitive, a mechanical or electronic activity. I feel, that it is a most noble expression of collective artistic intelligence and I consider myself very fortunate for having been able to experience this in my life.
